Marangu Gate to Mandara Huts
As dawn breaks, you arrive at Marangu Gate, where the real adventure starts. The trail winds through lush rainforest, alive with the calls of colorful birds and playful monkeys. The scent of fresh earth and towering trees surrounds you as you ascend steadily to Mandara Huts — your cozy home amid nature’s grandeur.
Mandara Huts to Horombo Huts
Today, the forest thins and the landscape changes. You leave behind the green canopy and enter moorland dotted with exotic plants and wildflowers. The mountain reveals more of itself as you climb higher, reaching Horombo Huts where panoramic views stretch endlessly. Here, the air is cooler, and the mountain’s spirit grows stronger within you.
Acclimatization Day at Horombo
Rest and refresh as you hike gently to nearby Zebra Rocks. The quiet beauty of these striped volcanic formations offers a perfect spot to breathe deeply and adjust to the altitude. Back at camp, swap stories with your guides, savor warm meals, and prepare your mind and body for the climb ahead.
Horombo Huts to Kibo Huts
Leaving the comfort of greenery behind, you trek across the stark, hauntingly beautiful alpine desert. The landscape is otherworldly — rocky, barren, yet strangely captivating. As you reach Kibo Huts, the highest camp, the silence and vastness of the mountain envelop you. Tonight, you rest early, knowing the summit awaits in the dark hours.

In the deep stillness of midnight, guided by your headlamp’s glow, you begin the toughest part of your climb. Each step tests your strength and will, but with the promise of sunrise at the summit, you push onward.
